We would like to let everyone know that this March will be full of change and excitement.
First to the change... Barb and I have been Managing P.A. Bowen Farmstead since July of 2011 and have had a remarkable run. As of the first of April we will be moving on to start our own Consulting/Education business called Real Life Consulting. We will continue to live in the greater DC Metro where we have developed many relationships that have made it easy to stay in the area to continue and develop with the community. We would like to wish Sally and the staff at P.A.Bowen Farmstead continued success.
In our new adventure we hope to bring real life skills to this community, so that it will have a resilency for the changing future. Some of the plans that we are going to do or hope to do is to have a daily podcast Barb and Mike network with a variety of topics, Q/A, skills demonstrations, video tours of local (and some Not so local) farms, interviews with some amazing guest, and some fun chatting.
Also on the list is to continue with workshops: Cheese Making, Poultry Processing, Permaculture (Edible Landscape) Projects, Alternative Home Construction and more.
One Project that we would like to bring to the DC Area is a display Permaculture Homestead Farm called The Homestead Research Institute. This would have Permaculture Landscape displays from a small apartment patio, a 5000 sqft. city lot, and a 2-2.5 acre sub-urban lot. This would help people to see and understand the concepts of Urban Permaculture and how it will develop resiliency in our community. This site would also have a small working homestead farm where guest could come to develop their homesteading skills on a one day, weekend or even a week long training session.
So here is where you can help us to help you... e-mail us at reallifeconsulting@hotmail.com a question or questions that you would like us to answer/discuss and we'll try to put it on the podcasts.
We are also looking for a site in the DC Metro area to develop this display homestead farm.
It would have to be able to have animals such as Chickens, Pigs, Ducks, Cows, Sheep, Goats, and basically all the farm animals Ol McDonald said EIEIO too.
So Spring is just around the corning and we will see a renewing of life in our landscapes and for Barb and I we too are looking forward to a new beginning.
Barb and I will be at the P.A.Bowen Farmstead Store on Saturday, March 22, from 10:00 - 6:00
for an open house send off. The new farm manager, Brian Wort will be there also so come say howdy and we can chat about the future.
